charloft - Modding or Sharing?
Oct. 26th, 2009 10:17 amTo what extent are you willing to share the writing of your characters with others? Do you allow your peers to write your character into their stories, or do you get frustrated if they come to you with a suggestion involving your muse?
Assuming that we are talking about my personal versions of the characters, given that most I write are canon, I don't generally mind the people I play with on a regular basis borrowing them on occasion. These are the people who I figure know my own character's individual quirks well enough to do them justice. This is especially true of the people with other characters that actually live in close proximity to mine, and thus they would interact on a regular basis. It's simply easier to allow them some access than to expect them to tell me every little detail beforehand.
Now, I do like some warning and say so beforehand if it's something that would have a major impact on my character's life in some way. I don't need to wake up one morning and find out that Wes got someone pregnant, had a horrible accident, or something else to that effect. Those kinds of things really require a bit more planning.
K'tanya on the other hand is pretty much open to anyone on her flist making up whatever the hell they want about her and I'll work with it in some way, shape, or form. She's a Sue, and her characterization changesevery second on a daily basis anyway. As such, she is above and beyond all rules, including mine. Just keep in mind that she always wins, one way or another.
Anyway, I guess what I'm saying is that I'm the kind of person that tends to roll with whatever comes up as long as I don't believe it is out of character for that muse, and I have no trouble improvising as needed. I don't consider myself to be a writer and do it all for fun anyway, so it's not like I need to keep a close eye on my muses for any particular reason other than the whole characterization thing. I do appreciate a heads up though if you do borrow one cause I like to see what they've been up to when I'm not paying attention. ;)
Oh, and I also love suggestions, ideas, and people wanting to include my characters in their plots and stories. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. :)
