Half a day of rain had left K’tanya in a foul mood. It was bad enough that she had been cooped up indoors all morning. Now she had to deal with the road through the village, which was a muddy mess.
“May I be of assistance?”
Turning her head she saw a charming young man with a hint of mischief in his eyes. He smiled as he offered her his arm. “I promise I don’t bite. Hard.”
“I’ll be the judge of that,” she said with a coquettish smile as she accepted his offer.
The afternoon was definitely looking up.

K'tanya sniffed disdainfully at the display that was in front of her. "I wouldn't be caught dead in those things. In fact, if someone were to put them on me after my death I would be forced to come back from the grave and exact my most heinous revenge."
Adam rolled his eyes and sighed. "They're just shoes, K'tanya. It's nothing to get so worked up over."
"Shoes? Those are not shoes. Jimmy Choo is a shoe. Valentino is a shoe. Those are an embarrassment to feet everywhere."
"Fine. Whatever. Just pick something already so we can go to dinner."

It seemed calm enough. There was barely a ripple to show what was going on underneath the surface. When something did mar the apparent calm it was generally nothing more than a brief glimpse of what lied beneath, before it quickly sank once more into the depths.
Nobody saw the darkness that lurked down there. Nobody knew how much pain and hurt was there, or the fears that were hidden from the light of day. The few who had dared, found only what they wanted to find and little else.
She was perfection incarnate, and that’s all anyone could see.

Aug. 9th, 2011 12:12 amK’tanya shaded her eyes as she glanced up into the afternoon sky. The sun, which had already been up for hours, hardly seemed to have moved despite the hour. It was almost as if time itself had stood still, at least for the moment.
Perhaps that was her problem, she thought as she settled back into her chair. Instead of moving forward with her life, she was simply standing still, wishing for something she could never truly find. Maybe she should just let it all go, and finally fade away.
“I think maybe it’s time for me to go home.”

She woke before the sun.
Slipping into a swimming suit and sarong, she decided to take a walk along the beach. Soon she lost track of time, and early morning turned to mid-afternoon.
Eventually she started back to the bungalow, and she noticed a couple having a picnic near the water. Their horse was resting nearby under some palm trees.
She couldn’t resist wandering over to the animal and lightly scratching its forehead. It whickered softly, and she smiled as she gave it a bit more attention. Then she left the horse and couple to their moment in the sun.

K’tanya browsed through a quaint little shop on some tropical island who’s name she couldn’t quite remember. It was simply a way to pass an afternoon.
As she passed a stand filled with postcards, one of them caught her eye and she paused to pick it up. It was a romantic picture of two people who were obviously very much in love. K’tanya looked at it for a moment, then walked over to the old man running the shop and paid for the card.
As soon as she was outside, she ripped it into pieces and promptly threw them away.

Jul. 17th, 2011 08:04 pmA change.
It was what she needed and she knew it, but it was so hard to change. Oh it seemed easy enough, and it really shouldn’t take all that much to accomplish. A darkening of the hair, a shift in eye color, a slight adjustment to measurements, a somewhat harder look, and it was done.
However, that was just the outside.
The inside was still the same. That feeling of uncertainty wouldn’t go away just because she looked different.
Changing her look was nothing more than an illusion; a way to start over again.
Still, it was a start.

Jul. 17th, 2011 12:37 amThere was no hesitation in her step as she walked out to the edge of the cliff. Glancing down, she watched for a few minutes as the ocean crashed against the base. It was mesmerizing the way the water would flow over the rocks, hiding them briefly, then revealing them again moments later.
One wrong move, one mistake in her timing, and she would end up shattered on them.
She continued to watch the waves for a few more moments, wondering how it would feel if she missed her mark. Not that it mattered.
Then, without another thought, she jumped.

Jun. 29th, 2011 09:04 pm"Oh. My. God. That is the ugliest thing I have ever seen."
Adam lifted an eyebrow as he glanced over the top of his paper at her. "I find that rather hard to believe. You did date Aidan after all."
She threw a pillow at him, and then gestured at the screen. "Look at that hat. It’s…hideous. No, wait…that one might be worse."
He went back to his paper with a noncommittal grunt.
"I can’t believe you’re not watching this, Adam. This is history in the making!"
He just snorted. "When you’ve seen one royal wedding, you’ve seen them all."

It turned out to be a working holiday. It wasn’t what K’tanya had planned, but being one of the highest paid supermodels in the world meant that sometimes there were certain compromises that needed to happen in order to stay on top. It was simply one of the many burdens of being exotically beautiful.
Adam however, was not pleased. "You look ridiculous."
"You only think that because you are stuck in the past and have no sense of current fashion", she replied as she shifted into a new pose. "Besides, I said I’d make it up to you."
"You’d better."

Jun. 8th, 2011 03:52 pmK’tanya sighed heavily as she looked at one of her traveling companions. "Why are we doing this again?"
Archimedes, now in his human form so as not to scare people, cocked his head slightly. "I think a better question is why are you making me do it with you."
"Because if he’s going to make me suffer, then you have to suffer too."
The griffin sighed. "You could have said no."
"Yes, but I’m trying to change, and Adam says this helps build character. What do you think?"
Archimedes snorted softly. "I think flying by plane is for the birds."

charloft 100 drabbles - 10. Rain
Jun. 3rd, 2011 05:27 pmIt was raining when she got home. A soft summer rain that cleansed the air of dust and left a scent that had always been her favorite. Now she barely noticed as she pulled her phone out and dialed his number.
It went straight to his voice mail.
"I’ll be ready to leave first thing in the morning. I’m packing light, just my passport and a few things to tide me over. I’ll get everything else I need later. I’ll see you then."
Then she hung up, walked out to the balcony, and let the rain wash the night away.

Who was the first fictional character you really fell in love with?
What qualities or traits did s/he have that made her/him admirable?
Did that character and those traits influence your development as a writer / roleplayer? If so, how?
The first one I can remember really falling in love with was Optimus Prime. There were other characters before that I liked, but none of them grabbed me quite the way he did. To this day he's still one of my all time favorite characters.
I think for me he was always that 'white knight' kind of character that little girls dreamed about when they were growing up. He was the one who was always there when he was needed, whether it was a literal rescue, or a figurative one. He cared about the people he worked with, and would do whatever it took to save them and the world. If that meant sacrificing himself for the greater good, then so be it. He was a hero because he did what was right, not because he wanted to be one. That made him awesome in my eyes. The fact that he was a robot didn't matter a bit.
I don't know that he really influenced my development as a writer or roleplayer much other than wanting to make sure that any characters that I wrote or developed would be the kind of characters that people either loved, or loved to hate. I wanted them to seem to take on a life of their own, like Optimus had done for me when I was a kid.

It was supposed to be the happiest day of her life. She was supposed to stand beside the man of her dreams and say the words that would join their lives together as one. Then, with their friends and family cheering them on, they would start their happily ever after.
Yet as she looked at her reflection in the mirror, hair done up in a soft cascade of perfect curls, make-up just so, and wearing the perfect white dress, she couldn’t see it happening anymore. He was everything she needed, nothing that she wanted, and it would simply never work.
