Meme - Character Concepts from

Mar. 19th, 2008 09:19 amWhat are five ideas/concepts/etc you keep in mind while writing your character that you believe are essential to accurately depicting them? Why did you choose them? How do they relate to the character’s over all persona?
1. The thesaurus is my friend. The longer and more ludicrous a word sounds, the better. Mary Sue’s are well known for their lovely purple prose and the raping of the dinosaur is an important part of that aspect of her character. K’tanya must sound like she is the smartest and most well read person in the universe, and that means using words that make it so people have to look it up in the dictionary to find out what in the hell she’s saying. I still have trouble with this one, but I am working on it.
2. There is no such thing as canon. K'tanya has no canon. K'tanya needs no canon. There is nothing that she has done that she might not come back and change later on for no good reason. She doesn't remember what happened last night let alone last year, unless of course it's in her best interest to do so. If she doesn't like something, she'll change it without blinking an eye. This includes not only her own 'canon', but also the canon of anybody she talks to or plays with. Your muse may not know they know K'tanya, but you can bet your ass she knows if they know her!
3. If you don’t like the attitude then come back in five minutes. K’tanya is mercurial in nature. She is the reason they came up with the concept of bipolar disorder. She will go from happy to pissed and back again in less time than it takes most men to think about sex. She will hate you one minute, and want to have your babies the next.
4. No character is sacred. K’tanya knows everybody. Not only does she know them, but she’s either married to them, related to them, waiting for them to realize how madly in love with her they are, is their arch enemy, or any combination of the above. She will godmod the hell out of anyone she sees fit and not give a rats ass who thinks what about it. She is a mary sue, and that is her job.
5. K'tanya is everything to everybody. K’tanya can do whatever she wants, whenever she wants to do it. She can be anything she needs to be in order to accomplish her intended goals. There is nothing she has not studied, no magic that she cannot do, no miracle that she cannot perform, no talent or skill that she does not possess. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can convince her it’s in her best interest, maybe you can hire... K’tanya! Or something like that anyway. ;)
