TM - 249 - Talk about politics.
Sep. 23rd, 2008 12:50 pmUmm, hello? Isn’t that one of those taboo topics? You know, one of those things we’re never supposed to talk about in polite company? There’s like, three of them or something, right? Politics, religion, and…oh yeah, sex.
Well, I guess that blows that out of the water then, huh? I mean sex is everyone’s favorite topic these days so I can’t very well use it as a reason not to talk about the other two. Damn it.
Okay well in that case I can sum up my feelings on politics in exactly two words. High school. No really, stop and think about if for a minute and you’ll totally see what I’m talking about. I mean, let’s just take a look at this American election as an example.
You’ve got two major cliques, I mean parties right? There are some others floating around but they don’t really influence much and are really just there so that the people who aren’t part of the big two can feel like they belong somewhere. The reason they don’t influence much is because everyone knows that it’s the main groups you want to be part of because that’s how it’s always been. It’s like, the jocks/cheerleaders and the cool kids versus everyone else, you know? You can be in one of the other groups, but nobody is going to listen to you. Anyway, so there’s this big election thing and it’s just like your voting for like, the school president or whatever.
First all they do is talk about all this stuff they’re going to change and make better, but everyone knows they’re just blowing a bunch of hot air because they have WAY too many people they have to get through before they can do all that stuff. Sure, they might want to get better food in the cafeteria, but there’s no way the school board, i.e.: congress, is going to let them do any of that stuff cause it costs too much money. So they’re just saying it so people will think their cool and stuff.
Then, once they get that crap out of the way, they spend the rest of the time talking smack about the rest of the people running. This person did that with this person behind the bleachers at last Friday’s football game. That person is really a two-timing slut even though she seems to be in this oh so special relationship with the big shot basketball player. That other guy is doing dope on the side and he cheated on the big test. I mean you get the picture, right?
Oh, and of course we can’t forget the ‘I’m so special’ card, can we? I mean we’ve all seen this right? In high school it’s the ‘I’m the jock and won all the games last season for our team and got us to nationals and so that’s why you should vote for me’, or maybe the ‘my daddy’s rich and can get us a new gym to use for our dances and that’s why you should vote for me’, and other assorted things. It’s no different in election politics either really. I mean, vote for me cause I’m from this party or because I’m this old, or because I have a vagina, or because I’m kinda sorta this race or whatever. I mean seriously, who’s really paying attention to the issues anyway?
So, in the end you’re left with a bunch of smack talking, double dealing liars who aren’t going to change much of anything, are more worried about their public face than any real issues, and who we all have to deal with to take care of business whether we like it or not. Sounds an awful lot like high school to me.
And now you know why this is a taboo topic, people.
