Every kid has done it at least once. Tired of waiting for birthday candles, Thanksgiving wishbones, and shooting stars, they go out into the yard and start to search for alternatives.

It was K’tanya’s assignment, when she wasn’t watching over a certain monster/demon hunter; to give the wishes that she felt were most deserved. Sometimes they were small wishes, and sometimes they were of the larger variety. Once, for a very special child, there had even been a unicorn complete with silver moonbeams and rainbows in all the appropriate places.

All thanks to a puff of breath and a dream.

The day was perfect. The temperature was warm without being too hot. There was just enough of a breeze to ruffle her hair without mussing it up. The sand, white and almost shimmering in the sun, added the perfect depth of sound to accentuate the hoof beats of the horses. All in all, she couldn’t think of a single thing that might make the date better.

Then as they passed beneath a stand of palm trees on the private beach, she saw the breathtaking beauty of the waterfall and turned to look at her man with unbridled joy.
