TM - 208 - Four
Dec. 11th, 2007 05:57 pmK’tanya just sat there, staring at the screen, still unable to believe the words that seemed so glaringly final. Surely they were wrong. It simply wasn’t possible. They had a deal, after all. Aidan was supposed to come and see her. He was supposed to fall madly in love with her again and dump his dead! husband. Her denial of the words on the screen was absolute.
Except that after about a minute the denial was replaced by something darker. She reached out and grabbed a priceless Ming vase, screaming out her anger at what he had done. That sorry bastard and gone and gotten himself killed just to spite her! How dare he! All her work and preparation gone to hell just because Aidan couldn’t get a fucking tree in a stand like every other person in the damn city! Her rage was dark, and deep, and endless.
Only moments later though, it too passed, and she wondered what she could do in order to get him back. Long ago the Gods had gotten together and put limits on her powers because they feared her growing might, and so she could not simply wish him back from the dead. However, perhaps she could find another who did still have that power at their disposal, and they could come to some arrangement.
However moments later she collapsed in a heap on the floor, sobbing her heart out as she realized that there was nobody who would help her now. Far too many people were jealous of her great beauty, grace, and abilities. They would never go out of their way to give her happiness, and so she was doomed to live out the rest of her life in misery and pain. Her life was, for all intent and purposes, over.
No, she thought, as she recovered herself and sat up, more beautiful now than she had ever been despite the broken heart that would never heal. She would go on. K’tanya would not accept this despair and she would not accept the end.
There was something more out there for her to do.
