Well of course I was shocked and appalled that he would call me such a thing. So I hadn’t gotten his dinner on the table precisely when he had returned home. It’s not like I was one of his lowly little slave girls or something from some bygone era. I was his WIFE. I deserved some respect for all that I put up with from him. I washed his underclothes for goodness sake!
Oh but he didn’t see it that way. Oh no. See to him I was just another one of his little toys at the time, to be used and abused as he saw fit. I mean, I know he was still recovering from that whole Death thing, but seriously, he so needed an attitude adjustment. In fact, I had finally come to the conclusion that an adjustment was the best possible thing for him, and of course I was the perfect person to do the job.
So when he screamed that horrible word out loud enough for the neighbors all the way down to the marketplace to hear, well then I really let him have it. Months of this kind of behavior had finally gotten to me and I did have a reputation to protect after all. I can’t remember ever having been so mad as I was at that moment, and I just opened up and let him know exactly what I thought of him and his issues. I couldn’t see myself at the time, but I just know that my eyes and my hair were burning with the red-hot fire of my rage.
In fact, the very earth itself spoke up in my defense, being as how I had totally forgotten about this little volcano that was nearby. I mean, I knew I was mad but I didn’t think I was quite that mad. It had been building for a while though, and so the ashy stuff that had been falling over the past day or so probably should have warned me that letting my anger get the best of me was a bad idea. I had totally wanted to leave when it all started but he had to be all stubborn about it and tell me it would all just blow over eventually just like it usually did. Well, little did he know that he was about to set off an explosion the likes of which
